At Central New England Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, our Board Certified Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon offers a variety of procedures that can repair damage or irregularities in the mouth, jaw, and facial region. Our highly experienced team utilizes state-of-the-art equipment, and local or general anesthesia is available when necessary for patient comfort.

Tooth Extractions

A tooth extraction removes the tooth from its socket in the jawbone. This is sometimes necessary when the tooth is damaged beyond repair, or it has grown in misaligned, which frequently occurs with wisdom teeth.

There are two types of extractions that an oral surgeon can perform: a simple extraction and a surgical extraction. Simple extractions are performed on teeth that can be seen in the mouth. For this procedure, the oral surgeon loosens the tooth with an instrument called an elevator, and then uses forceps to remove the damaged tooth. Surgical extractions are used if a tooth has broken off at the gum line or if it is impacted. These conditions may require the dentist to surgically remove the tooth piece by piece.

Dental Implants

Dental implants can be installed in the mouth to replace missing teeth to restore chewing function and the appearance of the smile. For this procedure, a titanium screw, which holds the implant in place, is secured into the jawbone. An abutment is attached to the screw, and the crown is fastened to the abutment.

Bone Grafts

If there is not enough bone to secure a dental implant, a bone graft can create the necessary foundation. This procedure begins with a bone graft taken from another part of the patient’s body, such as the tibia or hip. The removed bone tissue is then grafted in place using special membranes that help it regenerate and create a sturdy bond.

Impacted Canines

Impacted canines can be corrected with a multi-stage therapy in which an orthodontic bracket is used to gradually pull the tooth into proper alignment.

Reconstruction Surgery for Facial Trauma

Reconstructive surgery may be necessary for patients who sustain significant facial injuries to the jaw, cheekbones, maxillary region, and surrounding facial regions. Our oral surgeon uses 3D imaging, advanced reconstruction techniques, and bone grafting to rehabilitate the patient’s facial structure.

Orthognathic Jaw Surgery

This procedure corrects a severe overbite or underbite. It uses a combination of orthodontics, bone grafting, and surgical jaw reconstruction to bring the lower jaw into proper alignment with the upper jaw.

Cleft Lip and Palate Correction

These conditions present at birth and create a misalignment of the inside of the mouth and upper lips. Corrective surgery for the cleft lip or palate is a minor procedure that separates and then realigns the tissues to close the gap.

TMJ Disorders

For temporomandibular joint issues, we implement a unique therapy that stabilizes and resynchronizes the movements of the joints and muscles to allow you to chew without pain.
